Frequently Asked Questions
ROI = ((revenue - cost) ÷ cost) × 100. Revenue is what you attribute to organic search over the period; cost is everything you spent on SEO (tools, content, agency fees, in-house time) over that same period.
This calculator doesn't determine attribution for you — you need to pull organic-channel revenue from your analytics or ecommerce platform first (e.g. filtering GA4 conversions/revenue by 'Organic Search' channel), then enter that figure here.
A negative result just means your entered cost was higher than your entered revenue for the period — this is common in the first months of an SEO campaign, since organic gains typically compound over 6-12+ months rather than showing up immediately.
This tool measures return relative to what you spent (revenue vs. cost); Revenue Per Visitor measures revenue efficiency per visitor (revenue vs. traffic volume) — they answer different questions using different inputs.
