Your files are not uploaded to a server. Other PDF operations, such as compression and conversion, are not available on ToolHive.
When to merge and when to split
Merge is useful when a form, ID proof and supporting documents arrive as separate files but an application portal accepts only one upload. Put the files in the order the reader should see them, merge, and check the page order before sending. Split is useful in the opposite case: you have one long scan and need to send only pages 3 to 6, or a portal limits each file to a few pages. Enter the range you want and the tool saves just those pages as a new PDF, leaving your original untouched.
How the tools handle your files
Both tools read the PDF in your browser tab and build the new file there, so the document is never sent to a server and nothing is stored after you close the page. This matters for documents such as bank statements, offer letters or identity proofs. The trade-off is that very large files depend on your device's memory, so a PDF of several hundred pages may be slow on an older phone.
Known limits
Password-protected or encrypted PDFs are not supported, so remove the password in the program that created the file first. Bookmarks, form fields and some interactive elements may not carry over into a merged or split file, and the visual pages are what you can rely on. Scanned pages stay as images, which means text in them is not searchable unless the original already had a text layer. Always open the result before you submit it anywhere important.
Quick tips
Rename files with numbers (01, 02, 03) before merging so they are easy to order. If the merged file is too large for an upload limit, check whether the source scans were saved at a very high resolution; re-scanning at a lower setting usually shrinks the file far more than any other change. For a split, count pages from the first page of the file, not from the page number printed on the paper.
