Merge Scanned PDFs

A scanned PDF is created by photographing or scanning paper pages and saving the images as a PDF file. Unlike text-based PDFs, each page is an embedded image. Scanned PDFs are typically larger in file size and text is not selectable unless OCR has been applied.

Yes. This tool does not re-encode or re-compress the images inside the PDFs. Scan resolution, colour depth, and image quality are completely unchanged in the merged output.

Yes. The tool handles both types in the same merge operation. The output is a single PDF where some pages are image-based (from scans) and others are text-based — whichever the source files contain.

Only if the scanned PDFs already have a text layer from OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Merging does not add or remove OCR text. Run OCR before merging if searchable text is needed.

200 DPI is the minimum for readable text; 300 DPI is the standard for clear documents; 600 DPI is used for archiving or when fine detail matters. Higher DPI produces larger files.
