Frequently Asked Questions
Exit Rate = (sessions that ended on this page ÷ total sessions that included this page) × 100. It's a page-level metric, unlike bounce rate which is typically measured per-session or site-wide.
Exit rate counts any session that ended on the page, even if the visitor viewed several other pages first. Bounce rate only counts sessions where the page was the ONLY page viewed. A checkout confirmation page can have a very high exit rate (visitors are done) without a high bounce rate.
The underlying formula here is the same ratio used for bounce rate calculations in this tool set — it doesn't structurally separate the two concepts, so make sure the numbers you enter (sessions ending on this specific page ÷ its total sessions) match the exit-rate definition rather than a site-wide bounce figure.
It depends on the page's role — a high exit rate on your checkout confirmation or a blog post is often fine (the visitor got what they came for), while a high exit rate mid-funnel (e.g. on a cart page) usually signals a problem worth investigating.
