About Income Tax Calculator India

What this calculator applies

It computes tax under the new tax regime using the rates for FY 2026-27 (assessment year 2027-28), which are unchanged from FY 2025-26. Enter your gross annual income and say whether you are salaried. If you are, the tool subtracts the Rs. 75,000 standard deduction first.

  • Up to Rs. 4,00,000: nil
  • 4,00,001 to 8,00,000: 5%
  • 8,00,001 to 12,00,000: 10%
  • 12,00,001 to 16,00,000: 15%
  • 16,00,001 to 20,00,000: 20%
  • 20,00,001 to 24,00,000: 25%
  • Above Rs. 24,00,000: 30%

Rebate, surcharge and cess

  • Section 87A rebate: if taxable income is Rs. 12,00,000 or less, the whole slab tax is rebated, so tax is nil. A salaried person with gross income up to Rs. 12,75,000 therefore pays nothing.
  • Marginal relief: just above Rs. 12 lakh, tax is capped at the amount by which income exceeds Rs. 12 lakh. At Rs. 12,10,000 taxable income the base tax is Rs. 10,000, not Rs. 61,500.
  • Surcharge: 10% above Rs. 50 lakh, 15% above Rs. 1 crore and 25% above Rs. 2 crore (the new-regime maximum), with marginal relief at each threshold.
  • Cess: 4% on tax plus surcharge.

Worked example

Gross salary Rs. 15,00,000: after the standard deduction, taxable income is Rs. 14,25,000. Slab tax is 20,000 + 40,000 + 15% of 2,25,000 = Rs. 93,750, and with cess the total is Rs. 97,500.

What it does not cover

  • New regime only. There is no old-regime option and no 80C, 80D or HRA deductions. HRA exemption is not available in the new regime.
  • Special-rate income such as capital gains is not separated out; enter only income taxed at slab rates.
  • Employer NPS contributions and other regime-specific deductions are not modelled.
  • Tax rules change with each Finance Act. Check the current year on the Income Tax Department website before filing.

The result is an estimate for planning, not a filed return. See the CTC to take-home calculator for how this feeds into monthly pay.
