Word to HTML

What this tool does

It converts a Word .docx file into HTML in your browser using the mammoth library. Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, lists, links, tables and images become standard HTML elements. You can copy the markup or download it as an .html file. The document is not uploaded.

How to use it

1. Choose a .docx file.
2. Click Convert to HTML.
3. Copy or download the HTML, then check it in your own page.

What the HTML looks like

The converter maps what a paragraph means to an element, not how it looks. A paragraph styled "Heading 1" becomes an h1, a bulleted list becomes ul with li items, bold text becomes strong and a table becomes a table. This produces clean markup that takes on your website's own styles. Fonts, colours, margins and page layout are not copied.

Limits

• It is not a visual copy. Expect to restyle the result. Complex layouts, text boxes, columns and floating images do not carry over.
• Heading detection depends on styles. If someone made a heading by enlarging bold text instead of applying a heading style, it will come out as a normal paragraph. The tool tells you how many elements it could not convert exactly.
• Images are embedded inline as data. That works anywhere but can make the HTML very large for image-heavy documents, so you may want to replace them with image files.
• Only .docx. Older .doc files must be saved as .docx first. Password-protected files are not supported.

Tidy the output

The result is compact. Paste it into the HTML formatter to add indentation and make it easier to read and edit. If you want Markdown instead, use Word to Markdown.
