About Meta Tag Generator

What goes in

Enter up to four lines: page title, description, keywords and (optionally) the page URL. The tool writes these tags:

  • meta name="description" and meta name="keywords"
  • Open Graph tags og:title and og:description, plus og:url when you give a URL. These control how the link looks when shared on social platforms.
  • meta name="robots" content="index, follow"

What it does not generate

  • The <title> element itself. Add it separately; the title line is used only for the og:title tag.
  • Twitter card tags, og:image and canonical links. Add these by hand if you want share images and canonical control.
  • No escaping is applied, so a double quote in the description will break the HTML attribute. Use single quotes or the entity &quot;.

SEO guidance

Google ignores the keywords tag for ranking, so do not spend time on it. The description does not affect rankings directly but affects click-through, so write it for people and keep it near 150 to 160 characters (check with the character counter). Place the tags inside <head>.

The default index, follow tag is also what browsers assume without it. Remove it or change it to noindex for pages that should stay out of search results.

The meta keywords tag has no real ranking effect in modern search engines, but this generator includes it since some legacy CMSs and internal tools still reference it.
